Scouting is about having fun with a purpose, and here in Mashpee, Troop 36 puts that into practice by putting the Scouts in charge. We operate on a youth-led model. Our adult leaders are here to provide mentorship and ensure safety, but our core philosophy is stepping back so the youth can step up. Through servant leadership, our Scouts plan the yearly schedule, run the weekly meetings, and manage the campouts.
Our program is built around active, hands-on outdoor adventure. Depending on the month, you might find us sailing around Martha's Vineyard, taking on section hikes along the Appalachian Trail, or preparing for high-adventure expeditions like Florida Sea Base. We balance these larger treks with local weekend events, ranging from the winter Klondike Derby and our annual Turkey Shoot to mountain biking and overnight stays at indoor rock climbing or trampoline parks.
Beyond the outdoor skills, our Scouts are actively engaged in serving the local community. Whether we are organizing the Mashpee Scouting for Food drive, running our year-round bottle and can drive at the Transfer Station, or completing local Eagle Scout service projects, the goal is to build character, self-reliance, and teamwork.
We would love to show you how a youth-led program operates. Head over to our "Visit a Meeting" page to find out when we get together, and come see Troop 36 in action.
