Cost should never be a barrier to Scouting. Thanks to our year-round fundraisers, Troop 36 does not charge local dues. We cover all troop-level overhead—including tents, stoves, and advancement awards—so families only pay annual national and council registration fees.
We also use a pay-as-you-go model for outings. Standard weekend campouts cost around $25 for patrol groceries. Larger adventures, like our winter ski trip, have specific budgets announced well in advance.
By participating in our money-earning projects, Scouts learn self-reliance, practice public speaking, and take direct responsibility for funding their own adventures.
We believe in being upfront about the costs associated with Scouting so families can plan accordingly. A Scout's annual registration consists of national and regional fees. Because of our strong community fundraising, Troop 36 does not charge any additional local troop dues.
Beyond annual registration, families should anticipate the cost of the Scout uniform and personal outdoor gear, such as a sleeping bag and hiking boots. However, our fundraisers are designed to ensure the troop program itself remains affordable for every family in Mashpee.
While our fundraising covers all the troop's overhead and shared gear, individual monthly outings are funded "a la carte" by the Scouts who attend.
Standard Weekend Campouts: Typically $25 per Scout. This goes directly to the Scout's patrol to cover the cost of the food they plan and cook for the weekend.
Specialty & High-Adventure Trips: Events that require lift tickets, equipment rentals, or travel (such as our February ski trip, indoor go-karting, or other "high adventure" trips) will have specific costs. We always announce these budgets well in advance so families can plan, and Scouts can use their fundraising efforts to help offset these bigger adventures.
The collection shed at the Mashpee Transfer Station is the financial engine of Troop 36. Because our Scouts put in the work to sort returnables throughout the year, we are able to operate without charging local troop dues. Taking regular shifts at the shed is how you help earn your way in the troop. All proceeds go directly toward maintaining our shared camping gear and funding our monthly outdoor trips.
Where: The Mashpee Transfer Station (Troop 36 collection shed)
When: Year-round
Every autumn, our patrols set up at storefronts around Mashpee and sell door-to-door. This is our primary push to fund the upcoming program year. Selling popcorn helps you get comfortable speaking to adults, handling money, and taking direct responsibility for your own adventures. More than 70% of the sale price stays with local Scouting, making it a practical way to offset the cost of larger trips or summer camp.
When: September – October
